Job Done
Three of Aoraki Polytechnic's Certificate in Professional
Office Management Ashburton students have secured full-time jobs
even before they graduate.
Carissa Morgan, Kelly MacDonald and Ashleigh Ridge all began
Aoraki Polytechnic's
Certificate in Professional Office Management (CPOM) in
February with the goal of upskilling and gaining employment.

Carissa Morgan wanted to move into a career, she kept her job at
Mac's Fish and worked 20-30 hours a week while studying full time.
"I enjoyed my work but wanted a career not just an everyday job."
Carissa is now looking forward to starting her new job as Personal
Assistant at Hedway in November. Director of Hedway Tanya Hulme
contacted Aoraki Polytechnic for potential employees. "It was a
great opportunity as we were able to involve Carissa in a variety
of tasks to give her the experience of being part of our business
and at the same time we were able to assess her suitability for the
role. The week of work experience was very successful and we are
looking forward to Carissa joining us full-time in November after
the completion of the course. Our experience dealing with Aoraki
Polytechnic was fantastic and we would certainly recommend that
other employers make contact with them when looking for
employees."
Mother of five children, Kelly MacDonald was ready to retrain
and had always had an interest in office management. "My children
are now all at school so it was time to upskill and re-enter the
workforce." Kelly has secured a position at Talleys Group Ltd as
Accounts Payable Officer. "The Office Manager who interviewed me
was familiar with the CPOM qualification and thought highly of it -
which was a big bonus."
Ashleigh Ridge finished year 12 at school last year and wanted a
hands-on qualification that could get her started in a career. "I
know of other people who have done CPOM, and really enjoyed the
programme and gained jobs straight away. Aoraki suits me much
better than school and I actually look forward to coming. A
highlight this year was getting to do my work experience at Mt Hutt
ski field." Ashleigh starts a Parts apprenticeship at Drummond and
Etheridge in November.
Tutor, Jane Clayton is very proud of her students, "They are
all very motivated students and have been a pleasure to teach.
Employers contact me for our students, which is great reinforcement
that we are producing work ready graduates."
All three employers are willing to hold the positions open for
the women to complete their qualifications in November. "We all
wanted to complete our studies and our new employers fully
supported that," says Carissa.
