Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island and is alive with colour, atmosphere and world class attractions. The Garden City boasts spectacular gardens and parks, architecture, history and a vibrant night life. It’s a cosmopolitan centre with theatres, art galleries, cinemas and excellent opportunities for study and there are always loads of sporting events year round for you to wave the red and black flag.

Christchurch City has plenty of restaurants and bars for you to relax in and enjoy your spare time, a lot of which provide top local music live every night. A must to check out is “The Strip” and its wide range of ethnic cafés and wicked nightlife.
As far as transport goes Christchurch is flat out!!! Literally. That’s a big advantage when you are a student. You can easily get anywhere by cycling or walking, but there’s an excellent bus service if you prefer.
After you’ve exhausted your options locally, there’s still plenty for everyone to do within one hour’s drive in almost any direction. Banks Peninsula lies to the east and is a playground for abseilers, mountainbikers, hikers, and boaties. Plus there’s Canterbury’s numerous rivers, ideal for whitewater rafting, kayaking and the ever-popular Hanmer Springs.
