National Certificate in Adult Education and Training



Introduction to the Programme
The aim of this 60 credit qualification is to provide students with the opportunity to gains skills, knowledge and competencies to teach adult learners. This includes the design, delivery, assessment and evaluation of adult education and training.

National Certificate in Support of the Older Person


This programme is not being offered in 2010

Students will be trained in quality care for the elderly. There is a requirement for 200 hours’ work, either voluntary or paid, in a rest home (this applies only if you are not already working in a rest home for five or more hours a week). There is a practical assessment component for most units.

Introduction to the Programme
This programme will give students the core knowledge and skills required to work in a laboratory. Particular focus is on the requirements for the food processing industry.

National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3)


Introduction to the programme
This qualification is designed to accommodate the needs of a wide cross section of industry personnel. It provides evidence of the attainment of an intermediate level of workplace health and safety knowledge. It also recognises competencies associated with a range of workplace health and safety issues from specific industries.

This qualification involves approximately 15 unit standards that run in a number of modules throughout the year. Trainees who already have a number of the appropriate unit standards can cross-credit them to this qualification.

What will the programme cover?
The compulsory section covers the common health and safety skills and knowledge required by all industries, whereas the elective sections enable different industries to choose the unit standards, domains, or subfields that suit their requirements.

Employment options
The structure of this qualification has been designed to enable it to be used by a number of different industries and is aimed at those already employed in those industries who would be nominated by their employer to attend.

National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (Co-ordination) (Level 4)


Introduction to the programme
This qualification is designed for all industries and has a flexible structure to meet different needs. It is intended that safety supervisors, co-ordinators or team leaders will be the main candidates for the qualification. This is the next step for applicants already holding the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3), or those that have a good grounding in safety-specific practices within industry.

This qualification will be awarded to people who have gained a minimum total of 65 credits at level 4 or above, and who have met the requirements of the compulsory and elective sections.

What will the programme cover?
The Compulsory and Elective A sections of the qualification focus on the practical management of occupational safety and health in the workplace, while the Elective B section allows candidates to select skills and knowledge relevant to their industry sector.

Employment options
The structure of the qualification has been designed to enable it to be used by a number of different industries and is aimed at those already employed in those industries who are working in a safety supervisor, or co-ordinating role.
