FAQs
Q. Do we have wireless access at the polytechnic (Timaru
campus only)?
A. Yes we certainly do.
Q. Do I have to use a polytechnic laptop to access the
wireless, or can I use my home laptop?
A.You can use your home laptop.
Q. How do I (as a non-technical person) gain access to
the wireless network?
If you are enrolled as a student, and have an Aoraki
Polytechnic student login, you can gain access with your laptop
by:
- Walking onto the campus for coverage in the wireless area.
- Turning your laptop on.
- Entering your username and password just as you would if you
were logging into a polytechnic desktop.
When on the wireless network you will be able to surf the
internet, HOWEVER you will not have access to your H: drive. So you
will have to save any work you do on your laptop rather than your
polytechnic account, likewise any files found on your polytechnic
account won't be found on your laptop. So don't be fooled when
doing homework, the files aren't lost- they're where you left
them.
Also: keep track of your files carefully - there's nothing worse
than turning up to do a presentation and realising the files you
need are on the laptop you didn't bring in!
Q. Where can I buy credits for photocopying and how much
will it cost me?
A. Printer and copy credit can be purchased at Reception or
Computer Services in A308 (A Block, Level 3).
