This programme will provide you with a range of skills and
knowledge that can be used in the landscaping industry. With
immense support from Industry and the Horticulture ITO, Aoraki
Polytechnic is offering this introductory horticulture programme
with a focus on hard landscaping.
The 17 week, full time programme is the only one of its kind in
the area and will include training people in use of bricks, stone,
blocks and paving in landscaping ,tools and machinery, use of
concrete in landscaping, the safe use of chainsaws, drainage and
Irrigation, the safe use of agrichemicals and calculations and
landscape planning.
The programme will have an emphasis on graduates
being ready for work on completion. The Certificate also
includes four weeks of work experience, enabling students to gain
key connections and an understanding of the industry.
Christchurch's landscaping industry and the Horticulture ITO are
fully supportive of the initiative to address the significant work
that needs to be done in Christchurch and the shortage of workers
to do so.

Employment Options
This programme provides an opportunity for people to build basic
skills and knowledge in the area of landscaping and a pathway into
the landscaping industry.
Further Study Options
On completion of the qualification people may choose to further
their skills and knowledge through
other horticulture industry qualifications such as the
- National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 3)
- National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) with optional
strands in Amenity Horticulture, Fruit Production, Landscape,
Nursery Production, Postharvest, Viticulture, and Vegetable
Production, National Certificate in Project Management (level
4)
