of our Diploma in Arts and Media.
Successful completion of the first year of this qualification
will give you the Level 5 Diploma in Arts and Media qualification.
Build on that qualification and work towards a degree by graduating
with a Level 6 Diploma.
You can choose to specialise in Fashion Design, Graphic Design
or Visual Arts and Design or you can choose to become a creative
talent across all three endorsements.
What will this programme cover?
Fashion Design
- Research and extend conceptual and technical skills through
lectures and project based tasks.
- Elaborating on project tasks which is presented as a
professional portfolio and show case of work.
- Advanced knowledge on contemporary culture through the
connection of art and design.
Graphic Design
- Further development of the skills learnt in the first year of
study along with more focus on the industry and careers available
including work experience and advanced portfolio development.
Visual Arts and Design
- Research and extend skills technique media through lectures and
self directed projects.
- Elaborating on conceptual projects which is presented as a
professional portfolio
- Advanced knowledge on contemporary culture through the
connection of art and design.

What do you need to apply?
Applicants under the age of 20
A minimum of 42 credits at Level 3 or higher on the New
Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF), including at least 14
credits at NCEA Level 3 (or equivalent) in each of two subjects, of
which at least one relates to English; and at least one is from the
subject list below; with a further 14 credits at Level 3 or
higher taken from no more than two additional domains on the
NQF.

Portfolio: All applicants must submit a
portfolio of work showing ability in the major in which they wish
to study.
Mature students
Applications from mature students (over 20 years of age) are
welcomed.
Special Admission
Students who do not meet the entry requirements (or
equivalent) may apply to the Head of School for special admission.
Admission under these circumstances will be made at the discretion
of the Head of School.
Programme Recognition
This programme is accredited by NZQA and is offered in
association with Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology
(NMIT).
Employment Options
Career options may be found in the fashion industry, fine arts
practice, graphic and website design, the media and publishing
industries, the movie and entertainment industry, photography,
teaching, and self-employment.
Further Study Options
On completion of the Level 6 Diploma students
may transfer to NMIT to complete the Bachelor of Arts and Media.
NMIT has a pathway in place for students to then complete a Masters
degree with Auckland Institute of Technology (AUT).
