Studying Outdoor Education

If you have a passion for adventure, ambition to excel or would like to open up a world of outdoor activities to others then a career in outdoor education can fulfil your goals.

A future in outdoor education can take you to some of the most exciting environments in the world.

  • Study Outdoor Education in the heart of New Zealand's adventure playground
  • Real work experience opportunities: eg third year students gain their instructor experience with our first year students.
  • Indoor and outdoor facilities ensure you always have access to practice your skills all year round.

Watch this video for a taste of our Outdoor Ed students putting their theory into practice.

Aoraki is famous for Outdoor Education - we've even got Mount Cook in our name and our campus is based in the heart of the New Zealand adventure tourism region. Our programmes give you all the access you need to develop your bush, skiing, kayak, mountain and rock skills. Within driving distance for a weekend adventure lie the West Coast, Queenstown, Wanaka, Aoraki Mt Cook National Park and Arthur's Pass National Park.

Our tutors, highly respected industry professionals, teach you theory and practical skills, by demonstrating how they are applied in practice and by giving you hands-on expertise.

We have all the gear to keep you safe and fit, you can even hire it out for your own adventures and use the campus gym and sports equipment after hours. On campus we have a boulder room, climbing wall and gym allowing you access to develop your skills indoors and out.

Aoraki's outdoor education programmes have evolved over time but their core strengths have remained the same: experienced and dedicated staff; a close knit student and graduate community; and a student-centred philosophy that places a large emphasis on keeping things 'real'.
