Some things you might not know about us…

We offer over a wide range of career focused qualifications, so we are bound to have something to help you go places in your career.

  • Every year, a front of house and a cookery student receive a Scholarship to live and study in France for 6 weeks. The French school also send their students to us.
  • Many of Aoraki's qualifications can be crossed over to degrees, enabling you to get started on your degree without having to leave home.
  • Most of our programmes include work experience, industry visits and forums - which means you will know your industry and have the right contacts when it's time to apply for jobs.
  • People know your name at Aoraki - when you study with us you are not just a number, we care about where you end up and many of our graduates are still in contact with their tutors.
  • Our Outdoor Education students are known as 'hardcore' with much of their focus being on the practical elements of the industry, not just in a classroom.
  • We hosted the 2011 South Island Masterchef auditions.
  • Many of our qualifications are recognised internationally through iTec and City and Guilds.
  • We train people in the industry - some of our trades tutors teach people in the industry with apprenticeships as well as pre-trade qualifications.
  • Our staff know the right people and industry want our graduates. How do we know? They ring us and ask to recommend suitable graduates to be on their staff.
  • Our bakery programme has top of the range, ovens and facilities - that are even better than some places in industry. 
  • Our journalism programme is the only one in the South Island to be endorsed by print media giants - Fairfax.
  • We have a 60H farm! Where our agriculture and horticulture students gain real world, hands on experience.
  • Our carpentry students build houses that are auctioned each year.
  • We have a fully functional restaurant, café, beauty therapy clinic and hairdressing salon that is open to the public.(check out our website for dates, times and locations)
